It’s almost summer, and you know what that means? It’s barbecue season!
That’s right, your backyard patio or timber deck is going to get its fair share of foot traffic over the coming months, so it’s time to get organised and tidy up!
At Sunshine Coast Mowers we stock pressure cleaners from leading manufacturers like Stihl and B.A.R, capable of cutting through the grime and dirt left behind in winter, to create a fresh new look for your entertainment area.
However, there are some things you need to know before getting started with a pressure washer, which may save the longevity of your timber deck.
TIP #1 - Choose the correct pressure setting and spray tip for your application. Use a low pressure setting for soft wood such as cedar or pine - this should should be at about 500 psi to 600 psi.
TIP #2 - Use a fan tip with a 40-to-60 degree spread. A rotating tip is also suitable if you use it carefully.
TIP #3 - Make sure to test your pressure on an area such as a stair tread. If you mess up and have to replace a piece of wood because you etched it, a stair tread is easier to replace than a deck board.
TIP #4 - Action the trigger a couple of feet away from the deck surface and then lower the wand to about 12 inches above the surface.
TIP #5 - Use a sweeping motion to clean the deck, and try to maintain a consistent distance by moving your arm laterally back and forth.
TIP #6 - Work with the grain by feathering the spray lengthwise, parallel to the deck boards, and overlapping each area slightly.
